What is Saga?

SAGA is the professional development conference for genre fiction writers to improve their craft and business to become more profitable.

2024 SAGA Genre Fiction Writers Conference will be held July 12-14, 2024 located at Winston-Salem Marriott in Winston-Salem, NC.

Featuring two days of workshops, and presentations from professional, published writers on the business and craft of profitable writing. SAGA blends the fun and camaraderie of a science fiction & fantasy convention with the educational opportunities of a writing conference.

Beginning in 2024, SAGA will be held in conjunction with Congregate, a popular science fiction & fantasy convention happening on the same weekend in the partner hotel. When you register for SAGA, you’ll receive a complimentary membership to Congregate, and are free to attend panels and events in the con space when you’re not busy in SAGA workshops.

We are one of the very few writers’ conferences focused on commercial and genre fiction.

Everything in our curriculum is focused on writing and selling fiction. You won’t find any workshops on poetry, memoir, or literary fiction. Those topics are covered at every writers’ conference in the country, if not the world. By narrowing our focus to genre fiction, we can bring in some of the best genre writers in the country, who are making a living at their writing, to share their experience with the students. The topics we cover are timely and useful to writers at all levels of their careers, so whether you’re a beginner or a veteran, there’s great information that can help you push forward to success.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and talk with best sellers and successful midlist authors and learn what it really takes to be a professional writer. SAGA students can buy books from attending faculty, pitch their ideas to agents, editors, and publishers, and take the next steps in building their writing careers.
